Howdy-doo! How has everyone been? It's been a while since I've gotten a chance to blog. When I started this blog, I thought I'd be on here all the time, but that's just not been the case! I have The Ranch to tend to, a sweet little boy to play with and a hubby to spend time with, too! But I wouldn't want it any other way! I love my life.
Now as y'all know (because I've blogged about it and mentioned it on Facebook about a million times) fall is my favorite season. And I'm gonna talk about another reason why it's my fave...baking. I get super giddy when I walk in to a grocery store this time of year and they have their baking section busting at the seams with tasty ingredients to make some ooey gooey goodness! And, at the big box stores, they even make special baking sections this time of year right smack dab in the middle of the main aisle.
This time of year, I tend to buy more cooking magazines and those smaller cookbooks at the cash register put out by my good friend, the Pillsbury Doughboy. I get all kinds of ideas for dishes and baked goodness. LOVE IT! Helen the Hoosier Cabinet is stocked plum full of ingredients ready to bake bake bake!
This Saturday marks the start of another big fall favorite in our house. The Deuce takes a similar approach to this as I do the baking. He pours over magazines, he watches videos on YouTube and programming on The Outdoor Channel, he has a camera hanging in the woods. Yes, dear ones (Yikes! Maybe shouldn't say dear.) this Saturday is the first day of Firearms Season here in the Hoosier State.
The Deuce gets super giddy when he walks in to an outdoorsman store and they have their...uh, well, generally every flippin' department is busting at the seams with camo gear (Duct tape, really?), scent neutralizer (Chewing gum to take the scent of whatever tasty meal you just ate away. The deer apparently detect the scent of a double cheeseburger and run the other way.), buck lure (Don't even ask...) and bullets, bows (The weapon kind, not the hair kind.), treestands, and about a million and a half other things Bill Jordan and his crew at Realtree thinks up and says you need in order to have a successful hunt. Now, I'm not against hunting! Not at all! I love it that The Deuce has a hobby he loves and has been pretty good at. I love knowing I have deer sausage in the freezer. I just get amused with all the gadgets and things you need in order to do this.
But when I think of all this...the baking and the hunting...it makes me chuckle. The Deuce gets all hyper when I spend a lot of money on cookbooks, baking supplies and maybe a cooking gadget or two. And I might gripe a little when he spends a small fortune on a hunting license, ammo and camouflage duct tape. But you know, it's all in what's important to ya, I s'pose. I think I'm showing love to family and friends by pouring my heart in to some yummy treats for them to enjoy and The Deuce thinks he's showing love to family and friends by bringing home a big buck to hang on our living room wall.
It's all good, friends! It's all good! Do what you love and love what you do. Bake, hunt, knit, read... Whatever! Make sure you have a hobby to take your mind off all that stress in your life and enjoy it! And, do like what I'm gonna try and do... Be supportive of your hubbies and their activities, too. If they spend lots of moolah on huntin' gear, let it slide. Chances are, you have an attachment to your Kitchen Aid mixer in the bottom of your hutch that cost a pretty penny, and you're gonna need to pull it out one day here soon and you sure don't want anyone's lip when you use that attachment! Heeheehee!
Oh friends, what a fun visit! I have a good time when I blog! Even if you don't, I do! Heehee! Let's all go out there and have some fun this fall! Love y'all!!
xoxoxo,
Sister Sass
