The Higher the Hair...Cabin Fever Edition

Hey there, Sweetie Pies!  Hope all is well in your world!  Glad you came back to check on ol' Sister Sass here!

So it's nearing the end of January and I have to admit, the fam here is getting a little antsy.  Not gonna lie, I like the snow and the cold weather but the Deuce does not.  Nor does Sweet Pea, I'm quickly learning.  He gets a kick out of watching the 'nnnooowwwhhh' falling from the sky (the few times it has this year), but that kiddo is busting at the seams, just waiting to get outside to his slide!  Just last week, he climbed up on a chair in the dining room and peered out the window at his play set.  He whined a little and kept saying, 'slide'.  It was so pitiful yet so dang sweet!

Pre-Sweet Pea, the wind, snow or cold didn't bother me a bit.  I'd bundle up and brave the frigid temps and run all over the county!  Now that I have a little one, I can't really do that.  So I have to admit, I am getting a little case of the Cabin Fever.  But I'm taking advantage of the necessity of staying in and getting some things done around the Ranch.  The Deuce is currently working on a bathroom project.  I finally found some powder room accessories that I liked at Target and I've picked my paint color at Menard's.  First, we...and by we, I mean The Deuce...had to repair some tiling in our shower.  Once that's finished, we...and by we, I mean The Deuce...will start painting.  I'll post photos later.

I also rearranged our front sitting room/dining room.  The jury is still out on a paint color in there.  We...and by we, I mean The Deuce...is going to install a new front entry door before we...and by we, aww, you get the point...tackle that project.

Speaking of tackle...The Deer, Turkey, Fish Show is in a few weeks at the State Fairgrounds!  (And you thought I was going to talk about football!)  We...and by we, I mean The Deuce...looks forward to this every year.  And, between you and me, I kind of like going, too.  We head east on the interstate to our Capitol City and spend the biggest part of the day looking at dead deer hanging on a huge wall all while hearing men gab on and on about bobbers, bait and bucks.  But what I really love is the RV show is usually at the same time and I LOVE to go through all the campers and RVs.  I LOVE TO CAMP!!!!!!!  So I start to get super pumped when I look at the campers and camping accessories.  And if you know Sister Sassafrass, you know I like to accessorize!!!

Also, we get to eat out and I can score a trip to Target, so it's a good day.

This year at the D T & F Show, The Deuce will be bringing a few of his big bucks to get scored.  Honestly, I'm excited for him.  He's pretty much a big deal around here, downing some big bucks like he does!  lol!  So, I'll keep you posted on if The Deuce will be in the Hoosier Hunting Record Books!

And in other news...I'M GOING TO BE AN AUNT!!!  I know most of you know this, but I am SO excited about it!  Baby G will be here in a few weeks.  My sister-in-law is due near a certain Sassy Sister's birthday, and I think it would be ab fab if Baby G was born on his favorite Auntie's birthday!!!  Last weekend, my mom, aunt and I hosted a family shower for the Mamma to Be.  For the party favors, I made Fiddle Faddle from a recipe of The Deuce's grandmother.  I bagged up the sweet popcorn treat in blue bags and put them on each table.  A card that read 'Mamma is ready to POP' should have been attached to the bags, but a certain Sassy Sister forgot to attach the card.  :-(  Nonetheless, the treats were well received and I thought I'd pass that recipe on to my bloggy friends.  Enjoy!

Grandma A's Fiddle Faddle

2 c. sugar
3 sticks butter
3/4 c. Karo Syrup
8-10 c. popped popcorn

Butter the sides of a sauce pan and mix sugar, butter and Karo Syrup.
Bring to a full boil and boil for 1 1/2-2 minutes.  Remove from heat and drizzle the mixture over popcorn.
Now, Grandma A's recipe says to dip hands in cold water and mix until all the popcorn is coated.  Grandma A must have had some seriously strong hands of steel!  Sister Sassafrass here used two spatulas and mixed with those.  They worked just as well.
I then turned the mixture out on to wax paper to cool.  It worked well.  That way, all the little popcorns weren't sticking to each other.
Sweet!  Oh, and they tasted pretty good, too!

Well friends, until next time!

xoxoxo,
Sister Sassafrass
